Safari Itinerary

Day 1: Dar Es Salaam – Selous
Pick up in Dar Es Salaam and transfer by the famous TAZARA train (2 scheduled departures a week) to Kisaki, where you will be met by Sable staff. Short transfer to Sable Mountain Lodge located on the north-west boundary of Selous Game Reserve. After dinner you will have the opportunity to experience a night drive, or just relax and observe the star-filled sky from the purpose built 'snug'.

 

Day 2: Selous game reserve
Full day viewing activities include an incredible boat safari on Lake Tagalala, returning to Sable in time for sunset drinks and another fantastic meal.

 

Day 3: Selous game reserve
A day of game viewing activities including a walking safari and game drive, plus time to relax by the swimming pool. A final night at Sable Mountain Lodge.

 

Day 4: Selous - Udzungwa Mountain National Park
Have a peaceful morning and enjoy the swimming pool, or relax by the waterhole and watch for a variety of animals as they comes to drink. Afternoon train transfer to Mangula at the base of the Udzungwa Mountains. Dinner and overnight at the Udzungwa Mountain View Hotel.

 

Day 5: Udzungwa Mountain National Park
Morning hike to Sanje Waterfalls where you can swim in idyllic plunge-pools and camp at the top of a 180m waterfall. The hike is short (2hrs) but quite steep in places. The afternoon is free for you to visit site of the endemic African Violets and explore the forests and waterfalls. Night walking safari to look for endemic chameleons, with overnight camping (2-man dome tents) next to the falls.

 

Day 6: Udzungwa Mountain National Park – Kilombero Valley
Wake up to watch the sunrise over the Kilombero Valley, an amazing sight from the natural viewing platform of rock above the waterfalls. After breakfast transfer to Mikumi National Park, where you will arrive in time for lunch at Kikoboga Safari Lodge. Enjoy the views over the floodplain and go for a sunset game drive.

 

Day 7: Kilombero Valley
An extensive morning game drive takes you out to Mwanambogo Dam, where many of the Park's wildlife goes to drink. Lunch back at Kikoboga, then an game drive until the sunsets. Dinner and overnight at Kikoboga.

 

Day 8: Kilombero Valley – Isimila Stone ruin
After breakfast begin the scenic transfer to Kisolanza Farm in the Southern Highlands in time for lunch. There will be an afternoon excursion to visit Isimila Stone Age Site and Sandstone Pillars. Dinner will be served at the Old Farm House, with an open log fire in the hearth.

 

Day 9: Isimila Stone ruin
You can spend the day freely exploring the walking trails around the farm; there is an impressive checklist of 250 birds, or maybe you would like to try horse riding. An all day excursion to visit a Forestry Conservation Project can be arranged (please contact us for more details), or horse riding.

 

Day 10: Isimila Stone ruin - Ruaha National Park
Transfer to Ruaha National Park where you will stay at the beautiful Mwagusi Safari Camp/ Exclusive Mobile Camp/ Mndonya Old River Camp or Ruaha River lodge.All of these situated in the Park and they will give a nice destination for game viewing. Lunch and settle in, then there will be a sunset game drive.

 

Day 11: Ruaha National Park
Full day game viewing activities, including a foot safari and game drive. Dinners are always memorable affairs, served under the stars often on the sand river itself!

 

Day 12: Ruaha National Park
The camp itself is immensely comfortable, yet with a real bush feel. If you can pull yourself away then there is another whole day to explore this remote and dramatic Park.

 

Day 13: Ruaha National Park – Dar Es Salaam
Enjoy a relaxing breakfast. There will be a short gamedrive transfer to the airstrip where you will catch a midday flight back to Dar es Salaam. A vehicle will meet you at the airport and take you to any destination in Dar es Salaam. You may wish to link this itinerary with a break on Zanzibar.
