Day
– 3 - Leave the forest and cross open
moor land to Horombo hut (3760m).
Day – 4 - Rest and acclimatization
day at Horombo Hut. Day walk to Zebra Rocks or to
Mawenzi Hut. This day can be missed out making a 7
day itinerary.
Day
– 5 - Walk through moorland then alpine
desert to "The Saddle" between the peaks
of Mawenzi and Kibo. From here you will walk for about
an hour to reach Kibo hut (4730m).
Day
– 6 - Very early start for the summit
on steep scree up to Gillman's Point (5681m) which
is on the crater rim. Continue around the rim (which
will take about two hours if you are fit) to Uhuru
Peak (5895m) the highest point in Africa. Descend
to Kibo Hut for tea and biscuits or soup and then
down to the thicker air an relative warmth of Horombo
hut.
Day
– 7 - Descend to Marangu gate. Drive
back to Arusha Impala hotel. Evening you can refresh
and relax in your day room. If you're continuing with
one of our scheduled departures you'll overnight and
begin your wildlife safari the next day. Otherwise
you'll continue according to your onward arrangements.

Prepare
well by becoming fitter (and giving up smoking)
Take
suitable supplies and pack your gear for easy retrieval.
Avoid
over – exertion: if possible ascend slowly enough
that you can still breath through your nose.

sleeping pills and alcohol on the mountain
Eat
small amounts of food often, even if you don’t
feel hungry; avoid excessive salt.
Drink
plenty of fluids (four to five liters per day), especially
water under medical supervision.
Do
not deny any symptoms you may experience and keep
the group leader or guide informed.
